Mon 11:59 a.m. Ya I gotta go haul the 1835 back home! cold with snow from the looks of it and the new holland wont start for sure. case has block heater on it so that will get it started! lol!
Ritchie Bros. has a few Takeuchi TL compact tracked skid steers up for auction closeby..might do sum biddin'..they sure have pile of attachments gall-lure!!
Need to dig out my mini hoe. We're supposed to get snow here in Virginia Beach. I'll just move it up so it's just behind the gate in case I need it, instead of all the way in the back of the yard.
Ya guys! -- snow is not the worst problem,---its the wind and sub zero temps that get me! 10:55 --- 12/21 and welcome to the shortest day of the year!! lol!
11:50 am 9*,--high wind again. total blizzard amount,--- maybe a qyarter inch of snow, ---- so far! lol! Didnt want snow anyway! Snow piled in the ditches and along the river banks. flat ground is bare!
608AM 12/27 Colder than a witch's tit outside,15deg..no precip here, just salt everywhere..at least the ground is frozen hard. 300miles north of you Jim, 800miles east of Sonny..
12:22 12/27 sun is out but still 15* out side. cats are under the heat light I put on the porch for them. Kept them alive for the last week! They didnt leave the light for a long time during the storm!
8:14 am and I just may watch football today after that hard day of fishing my buddy dragged me into yestrday. No, didn't get any fish, just a couple nibbles. Buddy caught two crappie and a bluegill. I'm not much on fishing anymore.
Worked on tractor power steering hoses and filter set up a while. Need to pick up some new hoses.

YUP common sense went out the window when flip phones came in! --- then they bitch about how bad of state the world is in! Go back to pencil/paper and wall phones with an inch book of numbers in it!! Look shit up like we used to!!
Internet is not the answer to the worlds problems like they think it is! Cant find half the shit I need on it! ---MOST of whats on there is outdated, obselete, or just stupid! 1/1/23 at 10:11 am and first cup of coffee for the day!!!
6:41 pm 1/1/23 --- just had a burger and onion on the gas grill tonight! Not bad either. Got this char-broil commercial ss gas groll last summer and never had time to try it so I cleaned it up good and the damn thing works! Temp hand went over to 500* so I had to start turning shit down! LOL!! I thing I got it figured out now and I kinda like it!
I have a charbroil gas to coal grill.... fill the tray with charcoal, light it with gas for 15 min.. shut the gas off & cook on charcoal. Best of both worlds, if the coal dies before your done just turn the gas on..
if Sonny's welder was as warm as his keyboard he'd have nuthin to complain about....turn it off and go fix that F350 truck Sonny report back to us later 648AM EST 1/2/2023
Me too Jim. His days of football playing may be over. Hope he recovers and can work in the NFL someplace. Never saw an ambulance on the field before. Sad
Today just hangin around waiting for a generator to be deliverd. Bought a 13 KW dual fuel Duromax. Should do everything I need it for when the lights go out in a hurricane. My 5500 Generac did the job during the recent Ian hurricane, but sold that. New unit should be able to run most all my stuff. I could have gone with a 22kw standby but they are getting about $22K for those and buried LP tank. Ill have about $1300 in this setup with a panel interlock plate to supply the whole house. I'm sure I will have to alternate some heavy use stuff like central air conditioner and stove but it should do OK.
1:31 pm --- still messin with part numbers on the internet! lol! --- gotta get the grill going later to do some burgers and onions,--probably another big tater too, --Virginia informed me that is going to be supper!! LOL! She got hooked on the grilled stuff!
Stan that 13kw will run your whole house no problem..just keep most of the lights off, only run what you need and you'll do fine..I sell 10kw water cooled diesel units to people all the time to run their homes during emergencies, they will actually do more than the 10kw rating. I'm sure in South Central FL that A/C is very important..set it up right and it'l last you..glad to read you went with the breaker interlock, nothing really to go wrong there,no circuit boards to crap out when you need it the most and cant get parts in the middle of a hurricane..good deal
Bunkclimber checking in, helping Sonny get his part numbers right..the Dorman girl sounded so sweet on the phone,Sonny did you get to talk to her? 4:13PM EST 1/3/2023

12k is what's recommended for a 3 1/2 ton heat pump, and that's only due to compressor start up. you should have power to spare.

11:20 pm 1/3/23 --- tornadoes not far from us tonight, ----- looks like they heading this way. Weather been bad all day plus we had fog for 3 days non stop,---unusal for us. the rain part of these 2 systems kinda missed,---one went south of us and the other one went north leaving a narrow slot that went over us. Looks like its setting up for a dry summer here again. Rain did the same thing last year,---missed us by a few miles every time! Nighty night!!
Got the new generator a few hours ago. I'm now constructing a weatherproof enclosure for it to sit outside. It will have an exhaust fan with louvers and cool air intake vent. Will also fabricate a thimble to route the motor exhaust out the side of the enclosure. My younger neighbor and partner in crime is helping and reminding me of things to do that I easily forget to plan for. It is a dual fuel model so gas or LP are the options. Should do the job Bunkie. I'll post some photos of the build and outside setup. I have the recept, the interlock plate and 50Amp breaker already installed so all thats left is the enclosure and plugging it in. Hope I never have to use it.
the interlock plate and 50Amp breaker already installed so all thats left is the enclosure and plugging it in. Hope I never have to use it.
go update that breaker to a 60amp,thats more or less 14kw, gives you some headroom..the breaker won't trip exactly at 60amp but will give you some headroom so you dont overheat it,once the breaker gets hot it will trip more easily..-its a thermal magnetic design. the 60a will allow you for some surges in current but still protect the generator against faults(shorts) You want to size your generator breaker at 120% of maximum rating of the generator..if you go less it's OK, it'l just limit your capacity. What wire size are you using for your install? permanently wired in or cord+plug connected?
River channel is too deep to ever flood. They dig it out every few years to keep it straight and flowing. That is where I wanted to get 1400 feet of 2 or 3 inch hose to hook all my pumps together to pump water over to the garden tanks. We are 3 miles from the head end of the Sangamon river and it ends up down southwest a long ways. It starts out 1/4 mile north of Ellsworth coming out of a 10 inch field tile across Butch Green's farm. By the time it gets this far its getting wild, so they made a bigger/deeper channel to contain it. I have seen it bank full only 2 times in 15 years. Sis calls this area the tundra! lol! Colder than hell in winter and hotter than hell in summer. Wind never stops blowing either, I still say they need to build windfarms here!!! LOL!!!!
945AM 1/9/23 first coffee break.. still digging and sorting thru project parts and pieces, putting things away..trying to put a stop to the clutter..it's endless. trash dumpster is full-I guess I did accomplish something with my weekend
6:30 pm 1/9/23 Had to meet with county road people,---been fighting them about the roadside at the home place, --- I dished out some lawsuit threats at this meeting and got their attention,---then we talked man to man and got WAY more favorable results when they found that you dont f**k with sonny! I explained what sis and I needed IF they went with the village demands and they decided real quick that total cost was more that they had to spend! Anyway we agreed on an alt. option that all of us could live with,-- well cept the village and f**k them! --- its a county road thru Downs and county is the keepers of it. Funny how you have to use threats of lawsuits to get their attention!! LOL--- God I hate having to be the badass, but ya gotta do what ya gotta doo or get run over! LOL
Ya! -- I also brought up a MAJOR traffic hazzard just beyond our corner and going south. There is a damn nob about 3 or 4 feet high and 1 block long total,---camel back hump I guess would be better word for it, anyway coming up the hill from rt150 heading south,--our street ( Garfield st.) intersection turning left is impossible to see over the nob and the assholes coming north are on you in a flash. I think he road guy got the picture and did agree that it wouldnt take all that much to rip the nob out since the road will be torn up anyway. I also tried to get them to drive us in some pilings along a steep hill on our road bank. He checked it out and said it would only take about 150' and they could put them in theirselves. --Not holding my breath , but he is going to try getting it done for us. It will help all of us if they do it. Another thing he was not aware of is that our property line goes to the middle of the road!--That fact takes on a whole different meaning here! All the other properties along the road have been platted , so they have no say so in the road at all! Kinda confusing but anyway I hate messing with the damn govt! 5:42 pm 1/10/23
not aware of is that our property line goes to the middle of the road!--
I guess state to state there are differences in plats and plots and how it's surveyed..usually there is a 6ft or so 'utility easement' or an area along the side of a road where poles, ditches, water mains, sewer mains, etc can be run without interfering with existing properties or structures, fences, guy wires,etc..Power Co here had a pole on my property that carried electrical triplex feeding my garage and tapped off the pole it fed the neighbors house..The power company was replacing poles up and down the street and they came to my door asking where the property lines were,I showed them and asked how you are feeding the neighbors off a pole on my property..the engineer said they have 'prescriptive rights'- I calmly said thats bullsh@# and for them to move the pole over to the property line as it was in the way of my driveway and causing a hazard to everyone backing up..been hit twice..Came home following day from work,it was done..easy gentle persuasion works good sometimes
Ya!--it varies in different locals. By our deeded line being the middle of the road it gives us way more say so in the ditch and roadside areas.
Got my newest chainsaw started today,--- sthil 250-c model,--the people at the auction said it was locked up!---I new the motor turned over cause I had checked it! ---chain had jumped off and was jamed behind the sprocket. I put the chain back on,--adjusted it, and checked the gas/oil and they were full so I just choked it and a half dozen pulls it started and ran! ---used it a bunch today,--chain needs filed now but it turned out not bad for $25. saw.
Yup! couldnt belive it when the auctioneer said sold and pointed at me and said number 1566 --- DAMN!!!! Thats my number!! LOL! Gues whoever consigned it didnt know anything about saws! I got 3 ms 250's a 025, a 041, and the 009-L, all not much wrong with them---easy fixes. 12:04 am 1/12/23
Ya!--kinda makes up for the junk sthil 251 I paid a ton for and it IS totally junk, so these deals even out the bigger picture. Consignment auctions are a BIG risk! ---- so far we have done o.k. on the over all and I have limits on how much I think stuff is worth to me. On the last 2 sales, I got a 2,500 gallon upright water storage tank and I figured on going to $150--$175 on it ---got the damn thing for $1. , so ya NEVER know! Last one I got the 1,500 gallon upright tank for $85----figured on going to $125. so you have to look and have the numbers in your head before they get to the items you are wanting/needing/cant live without!! LOL!!! Looking at the next auction on the 18'th ,---internet only on this one,---got bids on several things, also neighbor wants us to bid some stuff in for him,--him not internet savy! lol!!---anyway it gets interesting. Neighbor and I went down and looked stuff over on Tuesday so we have an idea what we are bidding on for sure. 6:08 pm 1/12/23
9:32 am 1/13/23 first coffee! ---frozen winterjust covered the ground last night. about 20* and nw wind,--bad direction since it brings the polar flow of cold down. Not gonna get much done outside for sure!
2nd POT of coffee. 37 Here and windy. Was going to take down the Flagpole Christmas tree and cut down that Bradford pear tree in the background. Think I'm just going to turn up the heat in the shop & work on the MG.
Wish I could Get DOMINION electric to fix that damn street light. Been like that for years. Trash truck hit it. really shows how much it's leaning in that pic.
12:14 pm 1/15/23 --- about to cook a big pan of veggie soup,--wind 40 mph outside again and 35* but cold as hell! south wind should be warm but it aint! LOL!
8:50 pm 1/25/23 After 2 days fighting computer, I finally got it fixed for now, --- lost all my passwords and log in stuff for about everything. I did remember mbn and fb. imagefap and xhamster are same as they were 20 years ago, cub forums, mtf, Allis forums are work in progress and not much hope of guessing what they were. All the log in stuff I had wrote down dont work anymore since the sites updated a lot since I wrote them down. Anyway I did a system restore,---damn thing went back 6 years and put W-7 back in! ---well not many sites will open on 7 cause they require 10 or 11 nowdays! We had 1 computer that Virginia got 6 years ago and it died 2 weeks later, so we set it in under the desk and forgot about it! I drug it out and took the hard drive out of it and it still had 10 but the early 10 so now gotta find the rest of the upgrades to get it up to late 10 like I had.
Bunk!,---of all things,---I remembered my you tube log in stuff! lol! ya I put it back in against my better judgement!! --- Now if stupid microsoft dont mess this 10 up I will be ok.
I keep my old PCs when I upgrade just in case the new ones shit the bed. I think I still have XP on one over at the warehouse. Needed a new wifi card. damn laptops don't have the ability to be plugged in to a lan line any more.
yup I stay with the older Dell Optiplex 780 desktops, they are well built for what they are..I tried a laptop and they are junk for my use,not made to last..I get most of the desktops off eBay for around $50 then put a NEW harddrive in them-I'm running Win7Pro.XP was great in its time, very stable. The harddrive is usually what fails as they have a lifetime of 5yrs more or less. This current one ive been running problem free for more than 10yrs..unbelievable
You know you should not have said that. Now the damn thing will crash. My desktop is only as old as this site because my old desktop shit the bed while I was setting the site up and I had to get a new one to finish. Don't use it for much else anymore researching parts for work pretty much just use the laptop in the living room now way more convenient I can carry it with me wherever I go
11:28 am 1/26/23 Finally got a few more updates put in this hard drive ---looks like 10 is up to the same point or a tad above the other one. Some of the stuff is a bit different so gotta find my way around it again. The Dell optiplex I took the big hd (2TB) out of is a 7010 and the one I am on is a 755. They both support the same hd so I got lucky this time. I think either the power supply shot craps in the 7010 or the mb. I dont have any test equipment anymore to test anything. My stuff was all for w98 and wont work on newer stuff. Its guesswork to figure out the problem and the 7010 was a refurb to start with so who knows whats wrong with it. Probably came from an office and had 10,000 hours on it! I know the hd was a new one according to the original tag on it.
The 500gb hd is still fine but just gotta "trick copy" 10 from this hd to a bootable thumb drive and transfer the copy to the 500,--kinda complicated but S'POSED to work! Lost a lot of pix. but managed to save files with my re-sized stuff to my external hd along with the 18,000 pix I already have on the ext.
flickr wont let me back in---wont accept ANY of my log-in info, so guess I lost the 69 or so pix on there,--no biggie since I never used them that much cause it easier/faster for me to just resize in paint, save to folder and post from there. I know Jim has the commercial flicker account but I only had the free account, ( 1,000 pix limit and must be set public display) ---probably why they wont let me back in!
Sonny blow that Optiplex out with dry compressed air once a year, make sure to get the power supply too..every February for me..and be sure to block the fan from rotating when you blow it out or you'll blow up the bearings in the fan.. FWIW works for me
Yeah I just use the air hose but I'm a little tactful how I do it. Definitely have to be mindful of those little fans, they don't last long if you hit them with any pressure. They are all held together with little Teflon circlips and if you spin them too fast they come apart.
Approved five new members this week and there's somebody sitting in the queue but hasn't verified email. it's been a couple days probably won't it'll cycle off automatically. It's nice having notifications working. I see them and approve them a lot faster now.
ya mine dont meet the requirements for 11 either! --- thats how they messed up the other hard drive. I got the other hd back up to w-7 and with some manipulating I can get 10 back on it, Its a small 500 gb drive and this one now is a 2tb and is working so far. They got MOST of 11 snuck into this one now and its a bitch to find the stuff I use and like you I tried to pin the stuff I use most, HEY,--- I did manage to finally guess my flickr log in stuff!--what I had wrote down didnt work anymore so I worked from the username and had them send a "forgot password" thingy and got it set up with a new password!
11:28 pm 1/30/23 didnt get much done today. Too cold out so I got more stuff to work on my computer and Virginia got her printer to work, so guess the day wasnt a total waste!
Need to winterize the steam Jenny this morning before that cold spell makes it all the way to the coast. Not hard to do, I just fill the reservoir with antifreeze and start it up let it run until it pumps clean water out the end of the hose. but if it's going to drop down to the 20s tonight, I need to do it NOW.
Down to 8* here last night,---looks like one more cold night and not above 15* for today,---sun is up BUT so is 30 mph winds from the North! LOL! 9:52 2/3/23
well got down to 20 last night here. Ice on the pond this morning. still only 31. water is still flowing in the shop so I guess my insulation part of the job was good any way. Need dry weather for a bit to stop the ground water filling up the pipe issue though, and warmer.
got up to 40 here today but 30 mph winds made it feel like 10* --- had to haul 4 dump truck loads of horse manure home today! --Ya, stole the neighbors F-700 diesel truck! lol! He wasnt home, so I called him and told him I was going to use it so he would know where it was.
Another long day at work didn't get much done afterwards. Sanded on the car a little bit that's it. Wife made steak and potatoes for supper. Happy Valentine's Day
0752AM 14MAR23 cold and really windy here..hoping a big tree branch, broken off but hanging-widowmaker..comes down out of a tree here instead of renting a boom lift to take it down...50ft up in an oak tree(but not in my way)
I've got a few widow makers hanging up in one of the old sweetgums but there's no getting to it with a lift. I'll have to strap on the old spikes & climb for them. Like you bunk I'm hoping for the wind to take them down while no ones under them.
Wanna borrow MOOSE ? He will solve the tree problem without climbing! lol! --- Just reach up 25 feet,--close the clam and back away with the tree! lol! 3/14/23 6:44 pm
That would be nice for a couple of these trees however I can't get to them. my man-made stream and ponds in the yard are in the way and there's a big ditch on the other side of the fence that keeps me from getting close enough from the other side. I was going to try and use my bucket truck from the other side but the ditch sets me too far away from my bucket to reach it and anything bigger than my bucket truck won't fit between the trees and the ditch.
Ditches never stopped MOOSE before! He tore houses down buy just driving thru them, grab the eve,--go thru the wall and down into the basement and out the other side! 60,000 pounds with a big rops over the top! kinda looks like Marvins "kill dozer"! only with a 4-in-1 clam bucket hi-lift loader on it lol!
yeah Sonny I remember seeing pix of it-its a beast!,I like the way the serial number tag says "Do Not Overload"!! Yeah right! -but we have our own moose here-a comparatively sized, straight stacked Cat 977L but it would destroy the lawn+driveway getting it into position..easier safer and faster to just get a tow behind man lift..of course the high winds we've been getting lately here at 40-50mph, Im waiting for it to come down in the middle of the night LOL
Well been keeping busy with the Solara convertible I got. The window separated from the top I had to fix that the water trough that catches the rain off the back of the roof head split from dry rot so I had to replace that that was a bit of a job. Did the timing belt because it has 175,000 on it and I don't know had it ever been done or not so I decided to do it because it's a zero tolerance engine. Took it for a test drive today.... man I'm happy to have it done.
Ya! them "zero " motors scare me! lol! Glad you got it done. We had a skiff of snow and 35+mph winds here and 13* for the low with high winds all day so far. sun is up but still cold. Did a internet auction today,--got a few small things,---well cept a big old ripper! lol! Neighbor got a few things, so Monday we go pick up our treasures!
Pulled the tarp off the MG& shoved it back in the shop. from the time I pulled the tarp off until I actually got it into the shop, it collected a nice layer of pollen.
Almost noon here, --- 11:30, --- suns up wind not too bad today. gotta find a 5/8" fine thread bolt a few inches long to finish making my bearing puller. --- have all the other pieces ready to weld together. Now I have to take the head off one of my 560's and get the motor un-stuck and running again, need it at the farm to mow crp acres this summer.
0815PM EST 3/20/23 got too much sun today at the auction yard..had to climb into the cab of a $250K excavator and fire it up to get some arctic cold A/C to cool down with..couldnt dig any holes though
got our treasures home/unloaded/put away! Got a slant eyed chimineese chainsaw, ( Tornado Tools brand) and a sthil 011avt,-- it needs starter dog worked on but has good compression.
Been working on the road this week. Spent two days working in Bridgeville Delaware. Got a room in Pocomoke City Maryland for the night. going to spend the day working in a OakHall Virginia then back home. been a while since I did a three day road trip for work.
Have a couple of 6 gallon boat cans I'm going to fill up while I'm on the Eastern shore with non-ethanol gas for the small engine equipment at the house. The two marinas that have it near me in Virginia Beach got the price jacked through the roof. Gas is always more expensive at the marinas. I get it at the Royal farms right before I get back to the bay bridge tunnel to go home.
0412Am EST 3/31/2023 up early here got a lot to do, first pot of coffee..going to steel dealer later for another section of rectangular steel tubing for the front golf cart bumper..cart has an aluminum I-beam frame so Im using 316 stainless flat to make brackets from the aluminum to the steel bumper for no corrosion..the last bumpers wee just steel on aluminum and what a mess the galvanic action made..got a lot to do today
554am EST 4/2/2023 still getting big gusty wind here after yesterday evenings storm with 60-70mph winds, got some <1 in hail as well..went outside and watched trees swaying in the wind at 45degree angles.. thought I was gonna lose a few. havent been outside yet to do a damage survey the wind was intense last night. saw that Delaware got a tornado
High winds from the south pushes the water up the bay and causes flooding. we stopped by the campgrounds to see what Our site looked like and see this dude hanging out because his den is under water.
Wondered if you got hit or not! Radar was showing a LOT of mean shit down your way lately.--oh,--and another one just at the left coast headed this way by early to mid week and they say it could pack a real punch again following the same path as the last 3 storms. This time they were showing snow for us,--not gonna happen but all bets are off this year! Tornadoes came across just North of Springfield,IL. and took out a horse frm and let over 100 horses out,--none killed but the had to go chase them down, scattered the big barn 8 miles across country, then went on to destroy another horse barn! Horses escaped that one too but barn and fences gone there. That one left a wide trail of destruction across the middle of the state from what I hear.
We just have wind here again but thats normal for us out here on the tundra! lol!
Ya , looks like another round on the way! ---- not far from here the other day it took down over a mile of power lines! Snapped the poles off 4 feet above the ground and destroyed a trucking company. stacked their trailers and trucks on top of each other in 1 big pile in the yard. kinda that time of year for storms! 4/4/23 9:52
Well you know the weather is definitely crap when we're getting tornadoes on the east coast and especially as far north as Delaware. That tornado was not very far outside of Dover
4/18/23 9:58 PM Got everything fixed I needed to in Bridgeville. Spending the night in Seaford because I have to pick up a machine in the morning & deliver it to a store in Oak Hall, Va. that's on my way home so it's EASY money. I'll be glad to be back home. Have too many projects to get back to work on.
4/19/23 wind here again, we were sposed to get rain but now they say not til Wed. Road trips that pay are good!! Its the ones that dont pay that are the bummers! lol! Be safe out there!!
2:30PM 14:00 4/20/23 got tires mounted with spoons but needed a shot of ether ("cosby sauce") sprayed inside and lit off to get them to pop and seat along with a ratchet strap.. Tried Penray and another brand but the Deere brand can is the best kaboom for the buck. Went to steel dealer to buy some cold rolled round for a big handtruck repair
the tires in question were 16x8" front tires off a old Deere riding mower..small ones are a PITA...so I cut the old ones off with the bandsaw and a sawzall, careful not to nick the wheel..they were original on the tractor from 1969, stiff as a board and dry rotted, i'd been running them without wind in them for years..finally the sidewall gave out on one at the start of mowing season this year so I decided it's time to replace them..repacked the wheel bearings and she's back in service now with some fresh yellow Deere painted wheels..lookin sassy
5/5/23 8:42 going to hoe the rest of the onions, ---- 11 rows that are 225' long. Need to plant a bit more garden. Still have melons to plant and a few other things. Waiting on the tomato seeds to grow into plants.
5/11/23 9:25 am going to hoe onions again, got a big crust from that dab of rain the other day. Have vine crops to plant and some cabbage plants to set out.
5/12/23 0655am EST going to eastern shore of MD to work on a small air compressor, bringing my Bk Precision capacitor tester..old relic but still works good..from era back before digital multimeters
5/18/23 1011 pm. selling more stuff on marketplace and dealing with spammers and stupid people! LOL!!!! Gotta wonder how some of these people EVER survive in todays world!
11:19AM EST 5/27/23 Absolutely beautiful outside today here in MD..but I'm in the shop neck deep in a John Deere 6068T 6-cyl diesel fuel system..might have to just wait on the rest of it for another day
8:38AM EST 5/28/2023 Awesome morning here with a good cup of coffee

Sonny Isnt it amazing how some people call you about a Marketplace item you have for sale and want to talk you down on the price even tho they've never even seen it in person yet? -not as bad a Craigslist but it's getting close
GOTTA love the public!!!!!! Dont know how most of them survived! Latest question is what number is on the Allis segment wheel weights!! --didnt think that made any difference since they cast iron and weigh a bunch. nother was i'll take the tires but my niece will come get them for me at 7 pm !--ya right! never showed up. the fav scammer always wants the phone # so he can call and talk about the stuff! --- nuttin to talk about,---- just bring the cash and take the shit!! simple as that!! LOL! Probably should have just held an auction and been done with it, but wanted to sell out privately if possible and that might have been a mistake! 8:35 5/28/23
People are stupid and when you try to sell stuff privately it's a pain. That's why I took my 24 ft cabin cruiser down because I got tired of jackasses I'll be back tomorrow to get it and never showing up and all that crap. just over it. On vacation in Niagara falls for a week 😁
I grew up 60 miles from here. 4 years ago my father-in-law passed away right at the start of covid and I hit that deer I'm pretty sure I posted the pictures up on the site with my truck in progress.
Think I finally got the leak fixed on the yoke for the drive shaft too. Weather report it's 20° warmer in Western New York than it is in Virginia Beach Virginia how's that for snafu weather.
spent the whole day working out the bugs in the DoAll bandsaw controls, replaced some parts, found a lot of intermittents, got it up and running very nicely...all in a days work
yup I used to do that Sonny but amassed so much C-R-A-P in my life I had to clean out..an overload of crap that I didnt need in the first place, feels good to throw junk away after a decision making process..so now it has to be really exceptional for me to bid+buy..but that's just me
I have been able to re-sell a LOT of the stuff on marketplace for a profit, so actually on the last sale the F-350 didnt really cost me anything after I sold a bunch of stuff to pay for it . Usually dont happen that way but gotta get lucky once in a while! LOL! This time I got a couple 1-hp 3-phase motors to attempt a rotary converter, PLUS a couple 2 hp 1 phase with big shafts, so maybe I can rig one of them up on each lathe. Some odd speed reducers, etc nobody would bid on , so a 2 dollar bid got them. Have no idea what they were from/for but might use some of them for a project down the road! ( like I have time for that!)
In regards to seating mower tires, I've used this tip with pretty good success. Wasn't able to get 8" wide tires to seat on a rim that had 10" on it, but as long as the tires are the right size for the rim I can usually get them to go.
I hadn't thought of that, got to give that a try. I just did tires on the cabin cruiser trailer. came in the mail so they were a bitch to get seated even with my bead seater. Anytime I get tires online they tape and tie them get them so damn out of shape it's almost impossible to get them to take a bead, But with a lot of patience I always win.
just did two a while back and used ether starting spray to seat 'em old skewl..That bucket method sure looks like a winner if ya don't have ether..nice vidya
Had some smashed together that way too! THAT is when I bit the bank and bought the CHEETA! lol! Its paid for itself many times over. If tires go flat sitting and pull away from the rims, you can blow them back on . Got a couple here that dont have any holes in them but they go flat quite often. I dont use them that much so I put up with them. should just go buy tubes for them, BUT todays tubes are not much better than the junk chimna tires are!
the last two small tires I bought came smashed into a little box,I had to let them relax for like two days or so until I could work them..even then they were a PITA..but turned out OK
doin good here, stormy today, shop day fer sure with the door open spent some dough with Ritchie Bros last auction, got to go pick it all up next week 0706AM EST 7/27/2023
7/28/2023 753PM EST Cleaned out a enclosed 14ft trailer today, auction buy,got a great deal...removed old wood shelves..took out more sheetrock screws than I could count..if they're not bent I save em and reuse..damn screws are expensive..worked till noon, temps well over 100degF here
trying to pick corn before coyotes destroy the rest of it. Temps near 100 here so I can only go out a little at a time, cant hack the heat anymore! 7/30/23 @9:12 am
hauled home a Bobcat T300 track loader from the auction, so let the investigation begin..fuel gauge doesnt work, I found the senders go bad on Bobcat machines-$52 fix..at least the air blows cold..he he 8/1/2023 4:47PM EST
Damn auctions! --- went to Martins yesterday, (Sat.) and it rained all day while I was there! got soaked but did get more shit to haul home! 8 flats of interesting drill bits for $5. per flat, some shovels , 3 big ladders, 1 step ladder, big Troy-Built weed wacker, 4 generators, old pressure washer that probably dont work and 3 furnace fans with motors, and other junk. Gotta go back Mon. with the trailer to get the rest of it. 8/6/23 10:43 am
AIR??? wots dat??? --- movin up in the world, eh?? LOL!
well it was a good auction deal, air blows cold..coming from an open no cab machine to an A/C full cab, with air ride seat and pilot joystick controls Im in 7th heaven..don't even have to get out to change attachments.I'm sure to have some modifications to profile here on MBN..it is a machine after all
0741AM EST 8/8/2023 Putting new plywood floor in enclosed trailer today
8/17/23 8:50 pm. Been a busy few days harvesting the garden stuff and trying to process and store some of it for us. The over run goes to the food bank in town. The old freeze dryer is running around the clock and I havent had time to work on projects in the yard!
8/21/23 11:18 pm Just got dont with making 9 quarts of white grape juice. Mid winter it tastes good when you can enjoy it. Too busy now to turn around! ---I am gittin to old for this shit!! LOL!!!
been lazy this summer, but as the season ends, so does my slack time. Been stay at the campground since the 1st of July. back home after labor day weekend.
9/25/23 --- still trying to get garden harvest taken care of and still gotta get the 560 back together to mow the farm down with,---all 137 acres of it. Did find a nice Woods 315 batwing mower at the last auction, so 15' at a time will cover the acres faster. Trying to finish up freeze drying onions that I saved for us. -- took over 1,500 pounds to the food bank in August. Currently picking and hauling tomatoes to them every couple days. Did manage to weld up a cart to set the big freeze dryer on this summer. Sold the Case 35 backhoe attachment to a guy in Michigan and got it gone. Had to go get the neighbors Payloader to load it,---too heavy for my skidloader. Still gotta get the injection pump off the Case 1835 skid and find someplace that will rebuild it.
did a complete going over of the T300 Bobcat loader I just bought, radiator hoses, hydraulics+several hoses, custom counterweights, new oil cooler, pump drive belt, a lot of work in time and labor but with a no-emissions Kubota turbo it oughta last a while..getting ready for colder weather here once things dry out after Ophilia tropical storm blew thru, everything is wet but no damage..so after a few days of drying out its back in the action 9/26/2023 4:30PM EST
the Weather Channel hypes up everything to make it a story to report..such showboating..the real storms are the pop-up windstorms they don't even report..those are the ones to watch out for. It's just starting to dry out after all that Ophilia water, now we have another storm brewing in the southern ocean
turning wrenches lately on the Bobcat trackloader, she was previously enjoyed and didnt get much love..lots of things to set straight on it. Today should finish it up. also helping my brother move, and getting ready for winter season to set in. Staging shop jobs for the cold season, lathe needs service, probably a belt set install. Retirement has been good, busy now more than ever 10/5/2023 0644AM EST
Still freeze drying onions and apples, pickin tomatoes, making the K stuff, diggin sweet potatoes, and makin apple cider. Put 8 one gallon jugs in the deep freezer so far.. have more apples to do and also want to freeze dry more of them. Got the batwing mower hooked to the neighbors 656 to mow our farm off with.( still need to get my 560 back together), 126 acres crp PLUS 6.5 acres waterways then the roadsides on 2 sides of the farm. They say frost Saturday night or at least down to 39* which would frost here. THEN I have to dig cannas, daihlas, and calla lilies and put them in the basement for winter storage. Rain here today so nuttin outside can be done. Did finally get brake line fixed on the red truck,---took the explorer up to the shop in town to have them fix the blown brake line on it, and still trying to get the yoke off the diesel truck so I can put new seal in it. Been a wicked summer here. 10/05/23 10am.
put LED side clearance lights on a trailer, but crawling around under a trailer for two hours put a crink in my neck, pinched nerve, disc degeneration a previous injury, now I aggravated it..I keep forgetting I'm not 25 anymore. I did get the back half done, now for the front half tomorrow. Good thing I can still get around and DON'T have to sit and watch daytime TV,especially the Drew Barrymore Show 10/10/2023 5:18PM EST
I know the feeling about the backs and necks! --- I forget too and suffer after I do it but push on and get shit done ! I thought you were 25! LOL!! Still freeze drying apples and onions. Bout have the onions done I think. One or two more batches should get them. Apples are great but dont know how many we will get to do. Weather getting cold here now. Freeze is just around the corner. 10/10/23 8:22 pm.
77 yesterday 63 today. Cool enough to do some work outside again. guess I'll finish splitting the wood from the gum tree I had taken down in the spring.
No time to do any loggin here yet, still freeze drying apples right now. Have carrots, beets, and potatoes to do a few of. Slow process. The little dryer burned up a switch after 8 years of running so was down for 4 days til I finally found one to replace it with. Dont know why it even has a switch since its never used OR needed! This is on the vac pump and the unit turns it on when its time so the switch is never used and just something else to go bad! I cant find a wiring diagram for the pump to see if I can wire direct to the motor or not and get rid of the switches or not. Anyway the temps here are now 50 for highs and 38 - 40 for lows and frosty in the morninigs. When it gets below 35* we cant run the big unit on the porch so will be down to the little guy again. They say not to run them below 35* so we wont. Guess it messes up the computer board when it gets cold,----dunno. Never did get the pinion seal put in the diesel truck so I can use it. Gotta renew my drivers license this month and will drop the cdl shit and go with just something non cdl that will cover my 1 ton trucks. Not gonna go thru all that pre trip inspection shit again. the driving test would not be a big deal,--- the auction company said I could take their kw and imp trailer to do the drive, BUT I would have to go 75 miles to the place that gives driving tests. Cant go just up the road to the local place anymore since they stopped the cdl part there. Damn illegals just walk in and get a cdl handed to them without knowing how to back a truck or speak english, but they put me thru the mill so f*%k the bastards! I am quittin! 10/22/23 9:43 am
yup Sonny just get a non-commercial Class A..the govt makes us (CDL drivers) go thru so much s$%^ now just to keep the license its unbeliveable..its even worse if you own a CDL truck just to keep it on the road you need a full-time person just to manage the DOT and fuel taxes, mileage factoring and all that stuff that goes with it..thinking about trading mine in myself for a noncomm Class A
Well guys this summer/fall has been a rough one. The legal issues that my granddaughter had gotten me into has come to a conclusion. Not the conclusion I would have liked but its over after 5 years and 30k in lawyers. That put my finances into a spin that ended up my having to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Then to cap it all off my wife of 43 years passed away September 13th. The cherry on the top.....I need to have gallbladder surgery. I have not set foot in my shop in over a year. I feel like I'm walking up a down escalator. Some day soon I hope to get back doing something other than sit on my ass. The summer before last I had to have a new roof put on my house. I stepped on a roofing nail. Being a diabetic I have no feeling in my feet. I had no idea it was in my foot. It got infected. Sat on my ass. Before that had completely healed I got an infection in a scrape on my shin. Sat on my ass. My numb foot found another nail that the magnet nor the new tires on my new mower discovered. Sat on my ass some more. By the time all that got healed up it was hot enough to make the devil sigh. Waiting for the cooler weather a month or so away, you guessed it. Sat on my ass. The week before Thanksgiving my wife almost died from an infection caused by 35 year old hernia mesh. That infection killed her liver. Shortly after last Christmas the ammonia in her system got so high she should have been in a coma. It rendered her to the mentality of a 4 year old. I didnt sit on my ass but it wasnt the kind of exercise I wanted. Then she passed. Now I'm sick. At least I stayed together to see her through. Maybe after I get healed up from the surgery I can clean up my shop. I have some neat things planned if I can just catch a break. Terry
Good to hear from you Terry, sad to hear you had to go thru all that..sometimes the best medicine is to get out into the shop and get going on a small project, something you know you can complete,to give you the satisfaction and reassurance you still have it..then move on to something bigger..doesn't have to cost a lot or be spectacular..just cleaning out, moving a cabinet or building some shelves out of scrap pallet wood might do it..to get your mojo back..sometimes just sitting and (optionally enjoying an adult beverage and/or cigar) and looking at a shop job does it for me..I can usually come up with a problem fix or solution with slow analysis..then get another beverage and further investigate. Then turn out the lights and come back the next day and you might see it totally different..sometimes a good night sleep and look at it tomorrow approach is the best..FWIW
God Terry! That was a hell of a blow to have to go thru! Sorry for your losses! Pickin up the pieces is hard to do but try real hard to do it! I know its easy to tell somebody but know ya got friends here to talk to! IF We lived closer to you, we would be there in person! Try doing as Bunk suggests, little by little it will come together for you and no things will never be the same without your wife but try real hard! O.K.???? Remember we are here to talk anytime you feel up to it!
Cold here. 29*. Sat. Nov. 11, 6 am, auction starts at 8:30, gotta drive 30 miles to get there. Gonna be a long day! Weather temps have been up and down and looks like a few more dry days then possible snow for us. Did I ever mention that I HATE winter???? lol!
LOL! Years ago when I was diagnosed with diabetes I had a discussion with the doctor. I told him that I had given up alcohol, fast cars, easy women, and cigars. I was going to have sugar in my coffee! "Well, that little bit shouldn't hurt." He says. I don't drink, I don't smoke and I don't do drugs. I'm a boring guy.
Well Terry, ---- I decided that its my life and IF I enjoy eating something within reason, --- I'm gonna do it! LOL! Made it to 77 living out of the garden and processing our own stuff so cant be all bad! IF I cut out all the stuff I not s'posed to eat,-- I would starve! Eat/drink within reason and live long life! Hop in here every chance you get! looks like Bunk and me are the lone wolves here now days! Dont know what happened to everybody else. Lots of lookers but no posters. 11/21/23 1:50 pm
alcohol within reason-very powerful stuff-('brand new cars-oak tree you're in my way-too much smoke, too much coke, look whats goin on inside you'-LOL) borderline diabetic high blood sugar and pressure,Ive made it this far..easy women never refused, but respectfully cautioned..good $10 cigars like a Drew Estates always smoked here, no time for cheap cigars, just a waste of time, they are nice for a slow analysis session like when looking for a solution to a problem..-never been a fan of drugs, let me take you one trans-con freight train ride thru the night at 70mph you'll see drugs are'nt necessary; nonetheless a 250cc 2-stroke dirtbike is just the same rush.. keep the faith Terry you'll get thru this low spot..stop in now and then say Hi
Dow to 25* here overnight,--got part of the garden plowed yesterday and froze my ass off doing it! 6 hours on the cub nonstop! Diaper and pants were soaked and cold when I finally had to quit, hands legs numb along with it. Today I gotta clean another batch of parsnips to put in the freeze dryer. Might be 1 more batch after this, IF i can get them dug,---might be froze too hard. Wed. and Thu. 2 more big internet auctions coming up. One has 5,000 cinder blocks and a bunch of wood/wire table tops from greenhouse "out of business" auction plus some other stuff I was interested in. Probably wont get any of it. Regular Martin auction is Wed. also my Dr. appt. is Wed., need more shit to stick in this week! LOL! 12/11/23 9:27AM
just bid on about 3,000 concrete blocks and tops made of 2" x 6"s 4 ' x 10 feet long. gonna tear them apart for the lumber. LOTTA work, AND short time to get this stuff moved home! 12/14/23 9:48pm
5:47Am EST 12/15/2023 35degF in MD had a weak auction moment and bought a skid steer backhoe attachment,I can see all kinds of MBN projects in the works to go on the bucket end of it
guess there is about 8,000 blocks and 300 or more wood racks with them. want to tear the racks apart for the lumber. Wanted to make stuff for my mini too! ripper tooth, grapple, wider bucket, etc. Flow control down the line.
Well, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was very different. I was alone the day before, the day of and the day after Christmas. My so and his fiancé were busy ferrying kids between ex-husbands and wives. So, it was just me and the cat. She is a feral that I had fixed and feeding for about 3 years now. I could prop open the door on the back porch getting my wife or groceries in the house and she would never make an attempt to even peek in the house. The front steps are awkward at best, so we never use the front door. A couple of days after the funeral I was having a bad night. I heard a cat at the front door. I wiped the tears and snot off my face and drug open the door. There sat that little cat, Misty! I asked what she was doing out there as she never had come to that door and opened the storm door. She just strolled in like she had been for years and hopped up on the arm of my chair and just stared at me. She has slept on my chest in that recliner ever since. So, it's me and the cat, Misty. I couldn't stand to be at home on what would have been our 44th anniversary so I escaped. I had promised my wife we would go to the beach so that is what i did. I was gone a week as i wandered over there, to North Myrtle Beach, stayed a couple days and wandered back. I got home and that little cat came running out to greet me! I thought money was going to be tight, but things worked out and other than some asshole hacking my debit card and it gets locked the day before Christmas things were fine. So, all eyes are on the new year. Also, good or better weather. There isn't anything so important that I get pneumonia over. Other than the gall bladder issue I have stayed well. So, with that I wish you all a Happy New Year! Terry
Hang in there Terry! Just do what you can without overdoing it. Gotta watch out for you now AND the little kitty! Have cats here too and cats can tell when something is different, well dogs also can. Animals have a way of telling when we are down. Holidays here are just another day for us,---work if the weather decent! Usually cook something extra to eat. This Christmas we were moving concrete blocks out of a greenhouse so worked all weekend straight thru without stopping. Finished the job at 2:30 12/28/23 ---- started on the 17'th.
stop in every chance you get and let us know you are o.k.!
649AM EST 22degF 1/18/2024 Hibernating in the shop today, yesterday finished a dirtbike tire upgrade for my nephew Cleaning out the back tool room, because I can't see the floor anymore and tripped twice yesterday
Went and hauled home the auction buys from yesterday internet auction. Got a Haulmark single axle box trailer to convert into my chainsaw storage unit. Now I wont have to load/unload the truck/car anymore. Just hook and go! Have a generator to carry in it for 110-v power to run the chain grinder, Dremel, a small heater, a trouble light or 2, and a 4" grinder. And of course the hotplate for coffee! lol! Got about 50 3" wide straps, a ton of used conduit with the wiring inside and plug-ins on some of them, also working switches. Several boxes of misc. goodies that I didnt go thru yet. 1/18/24 4:27 pm.
Still alive here. been cold enough to hide inside all week. Wife has me doing a whole crap load of honey Do stuff. re-upholstered the benches in the sunroom and refinished the table.
Still alive here in VB. 34 here this morning 1st time in a week above freezing at 6 AM. Sooo much going on here. just haven't had time to get on here. Have issue with my work van consuming coolant and oil. No signs of leaks any where, so I was testing for exhaust gasses in the radiator. didn't have to wait & see if the test fluid changed color. gasses coming out of the radiator at any speed above an idle were extreme enough to bubble the fluid in the tester. 355000 original engine.. Time for a head job.... going to suck pulling the engine out of the Van. I do have another LS 6L to put in it so it's not down for too long. machine shops here are backed up enough ALL the time that it could take up to a month to get the heads back. too long to go with out my van so I'm sticking salvage engine in while I go through the one that's in it now.
yeah Jim those vans are a PITA to work on for some things, access to the rear of the engine usually is easier but whole removal in my book always was best out the front after removing the core support. I use a machine shop in Carlisle,PA UCF Machine they have all new Rottler machine equipment and balancing in-house..might be a stretch to drive for you west of Harrisburg.
Trying to get some pieces moved outside today with a forklift tryin to get-er-done before the thaw makes a muddy mess of the ground again..so far so good..but 44degrees F temps are gonna thaw it quick
Weather has been rough for the last couple of weeks. Got auction stuff home, 3 tractors sold and loaded out and gone, planning the greenhouse construction when ground thaws so I can dig the holes for the posts. All materials are used and came from the greenhouse auction in December. also have the 6,000 concrete blocks stashed at my neighbors lot til we can move them across the river to my yard. Wanting to build a 20 x 40 block shop with them and a 2-story 8 x 12 root cellar. Big plans but have no idea how far any of them will get! Greenhouse first! 1/23/24 12:00 am
Still driving the Van as is. waiting on Gaskets so I can set up the engine that I'm putting in. Have to swap intake & exhaust manifolds. Doner engine came out of a pickup so there are a few minor differences. I did get the windows cut & installed on the Leer cap. Pics on the what odd jobs post.
Got some of the conduit sorted and unloaded off the truck. Looks like enough of that to wire my new shop PLUS the saw shed. --- saw shed only needs a couple sections and some plug ins. 1/25/24 11:18 am
Well when it rains it pours. So I got all this crap going on with my van and having to do an engine swap. Getting the truck straight so I can drive it legally while the vans down and now my convertible failed inspection for steering related issues and rear brake calipers that don't look like they've not been working at all. Guess I have my projects One lined up for a while
A LOTTA work ahead of you Jim! -- I hate it when everything goes down at the same time! Some damn sensor or control valve in the Explorer messes up in this cold wet weather. Starts and runs fine, let it idle for 5 mins and it starts woofin and dies. starts back up o.k. so since I dont drive it that much I ignore it. Truck started acting up the last time I drove it , probably sensors in it too! Damn electronic shit! lol! Anyway I got started on the greenhouse yesterday. Made the first truss and it looks good,--has the right pitch and all that good stuff! Now on with tearing up more flats to get more 2 x 4's to to make more. need 8 for the 24' length and 12' wide. ground is just thawed out enough that I can dig the 3' deep holes for the posts. Still a 4" layer down 8" froze but spade chops thru that now, so I can dig with the post hole digger by hand. Need about 18 or 20 holes for the whole thing if I figured right. Started making a scale model of the greenhouse a long time ago and some drawings to get a bit of an idea of what it could look like when done.
Cars done, truck gets inspected next Monday. then I can get started on the Van engine swap. Just when I start getting caught up, the seal blows out on the extension ram on the bucket truck and the scissors lift decides to drop into super slow-mo mode. think I'll just take the cylinder to a shop this time. that 10' cylinder is a pain in the ass to work in My shop. I'm hoping that the issue with the scissor lift is a bad micro switch or something.
I never did understand how the lifts work! Never been around them that much but they do look complicated as hell! Hope you only have a bad switch on yours,---makes things a lot easier to fix after you figure out where its at. Also might check the wiring from control to switches. Could be an loose/broke/corroded wire/connection along the line. Them big cylinders are hard to handle for sure! Did most of the ones in the Case 580ck backhoe many years ago and it was a job and a half to roll that heave shit around, messy too! LOL!!! I feel for you doing the van motor!! lol! --- Kinda not much room in them to work. Sis had a little 66 e-100 with a 140 in it BUT the motor sat back far enough it came out from inside the van!! Her 73 e-200 you had to take the whole front end off, bumper and all to get it out! These were all inline 6's and a v-8 would be much harder to get out. I looked at gm vans and backed away from ever buying one! lol!
Well I do have a service manual for the scissors lift it's a skyjack 3220. Older model hell I bought the thing for $100 14 years ago. Got my money's worth for sure. Had to rebuild the cylinder in that couple years ago cuz it was leaking everywhere. I have a nice troubleshooting list to follow out of the service manual so hopefully it'll be an easy fix. Yeah I had a 69 club wagon with a 302 in it and I rebuilt that in the van. Way back in my younger days I deadlifted that engine up into the van so I could close the cowling and sit in the van and rebuild it with a heater going. GM vans are definitely much more difficult but Fords are the same way now. The big push to get the engine out from between the seats.
Whattdya talkin about Sonny all new vehicles are bad, the good engineers that knew what they were doing are retired and out..Simple question, WHY do we need a electronic module,a switch,a vacuum pump with plastic hoses,a solenoid valve and more plastic to engage 4x4 in a pickup truck when a simple lever on the floor did fine for 70yrs?
7.03AM EST East Coast USA Cloudy,Chilly and Overcast, Oil heat is ON
I agree on the complicated shit that only causes trouble! My old 73 F-250 Hi-Boy only has levers on the floor, manual lock-out hubs and a carb on the 300 motor I put in it! --- ALSO a hand choke! lol! This 98 Explorer has switches that dont work! S'POSED to have 4 low , 4 High , but last time I tried to use 4 low I couldnt get it back into 4 High! I finally shifted back on its own while sitting in the drive. Never touched it again! It runs full time 4x4 High so I leave it there. Got a sensor or some valve on top of the motor messed up cause it slobbers when its cold then dies. Usually starts back up and runs fine. Had it to Gearheads garage and they never fixed it so it still slobbers. Got lucky this winter cause I have the new 96 350 and didnt go anywhere anyhow! lol! Anyway now on to figuring out how to get the damn track back on the mini-hoe! 2/29/2024 at 10:08 AM
