It all started with the clear coat flaking off the trunk.

Way she looks right now.. Black side is Rust converter. Gonna do the right side next.

so you are putting it in primer..watch your paint compatibility with your primer..availability of some of the old paints is going away like Dupont Centari acrylic and Imron polyurethane..get it now along with the reducer while you can whatever brand or line you plan to use

I'm going to reshoot the whole car after I finish the rust reformer. I need to put the rust in check first. I purchased the paint in a KIT. Comes with everything but the primer and I got a gallon of that too. Got enough to paint the car twice just in case I suck at this. Been a LONG time since I painted a car and I'm used to acrylic enamel this is base coat clear coat.. They say it's a lot easier to get a good finish.. WE shall see.... I practiced with this urethane on the golf cart a few years ago... Didn't seem too bad.

I never messed with the fancy paints, hard enough time with chepo regular paint!

Im used to spraying acrylic enamel quite often,the older Dupont products gave me very predictable results..but it's been behind the curve now with the base clear systems available. I have used the tractor supply majic paints with one disaster after another with that stuff..how does an alkyd enamel use an acrylic polyisocyanate hardener to harden it? the chemistry doesnt work,yet it's advertised as such. Im going back to PPG and even Napa if I have to for decent paint. There's some acyrlics available on ebay as well at decent prices I might use.

Sooo…. I wanted to change the engine mounts after I paint out the engine compartment. The dang steering shaft had to be pulled to get to the nut that holds the left mount on. Now I can wet-blast the engine compartment and move forward. I guess I'll go ahead and Clean the rack & pinion assy. and paint it too

are the fasteners on this car all metric or a combination of met and SAE? or are they the nightmare 'wentworth' standard

Nightmare wentworth just like on the 77 Triumph Bonneville T140V I gave my son.

Dragged her out yesterday & wet blasted the engine compartment.



Pusher her back in and set up the salamander (GAS fired ) to dry her out.



After she dried out I blew her down and vacuumed out all the abrasive stuff and sprayed out the engine compartment with rust converter.

I THINK I'M GIONG IN THE WRONG DIRECTION HERE..

AND SO IT HAS BEGUN. I'm finally on the turn around and headed back together. Tonight I'll hit the engine compartment with clear coat then every thing will start going back in under the hood. Once that's done I'll shoot the whole car.

Got some orange peel going on BUT good enough for the engine compartment. clear is on so I can start going back together.

started working on getting the heater box put back together too.

I'm trying to spend at least 2 hrs a day on it. Got a little more done last night.

Pulled manifolds off to get at the side covers today. Cleaning up the side of the engine while I'm at it.

No progress today. went to start My granddaughters 4wheeler and it was hydro locked. Pulled the plug & cranked it over to blow out the water. Got it fired up & pulled it up to the shop to change the oil. Need to change it again tomorrow. after running it a while the oil looks milky again

cleaned a bunch of gumballs out of the yard again. Sweet gum trees are a pain but I wouldn't have ANY shade with out them.

Finally got all the crap cleared of the top of my parts cleaner so I could clean the side covers and Valve cover and my solvent has a bunch of water in it. Pumped it all into the old water jug I used for the crap gas to settle.

Back in the saddle.. Got the engine almost done now.

That's gonna look great when you get done with it!

Is it just me , or does any one else think they blew it on this design?

Pulled the oil pan to renew gaskets... She's nice & clean inside.

Looks good! The oil filter was an "optional add on" LOL!! Ya I have seen them on equipment stuck in some odd places!
I used to paint the engines when I rebuilt them. Machine shop hot tanked the parts, so without paint they rusted the first day out!
Oil pans don't last long under there without some paint on them.

Progress update.. Did this Thursday.


New speed drain.. No wrench needed... I'll save the stock plug just in case.

Opted to get rid of the potential for a leak here.....

Made a nice blank plate to take it's place.

Did this yesterday
Replaced the rear main seal.

Staged up for installation.

AND today I got this far.
Fly wheel, Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing all replaced.


AND IT'S IN...Not all bolted down yet but she's in the hole.



Still need to make up the engine mounts and replace the tranny mounts.

Nope I'm very passionate... That's passion purple...

Not much more with the car. got the engine mounts all bolted down & adjusted but when I went to put the new tranny mounts in the bolt holes didn't line up. New set on the way and a slave cylinder for the clutch... I did get the rack & pinion steering back in though.

Got the rear engine mounts in (transmission mounts) and the exhaust in. New clutch slave cylinder and flex hose too. Back on the floor and back to prepping for paint. got some sanding done on the dash and found a couple small dents that need attention.

is that some kind of catalytic converter under the carb/part of the exhaust manifold? kinda looks to have a choke stove built into it..big round section under the intake

Yep it is in fact a Catalytic converter.

Got some primer on the old girl last week.

You do nice work for sure!! --- I never was into painting much---used to all the time back in the 60's , now days just not enough hours in the days.

OK so I've never painted a car like this so I been watching you tube to see how to get the best results without spending the rest of my life doing prep work. One panel at a time...... so OFF with the doors, hood and trunk lid.

Yeah too much work but easier to paint this way. worked on the trunk tonight,... found a nice cap for the fuel fill pipe on the tank.

Worked on the hood a little before I painted the second tractor cover.... I'd like to punch the ass that sprayed the under side of the hood with undercoating. cant just sand that crap off or blast it off.. lots of scraping & I'm finding rust that should have been treaded not just covered.

Now THAT is some nasty stuff to remove. --- will a rag soaked in gas help soften any of it? --- Heat with small torch followed by rag? ---just thinking here!

I have actually been fairly lucky the biggest part of the hood on the sheet metal part it was kind of hard probably cook from the engine heat so most of that came off without too much fuss. it's the frame around the outside that that craps sticking to terrible and of course all the irregular shaped I can't get in there with anything neat it's a pain in the butt

needle scalers!!! never had one but they look handy! --lookin good there!

They are awesome for getting thick scale of any kind off.
