I canceled the order...found some on the fleabays. Should be here Tuesday. Little progress has happened. Got the front u bolts torqued qt transmission crossmember in. Bought all new hardware for the suspension from mcmaster carr. Sorting through old original hardware trying to figure out how to restore that. Had found all new body mounts. Probably will order the trans an t case rebuilding kits next week. Hopefully in a week or two it will be a rolling chassis

Having a debate if I wanna use the original box or replace or mod a service body for. The box is fair needs some patching.

Front axle came from snow fighter truck...originally it had a 44...I swap it out 20 some years ago. Kept busting front knuckles the 60 cured that

what powertrain is going in this truck? 460? Cummins 6BT?
Posted By: Nnaatz Re: 1978 f250 4x4 rebuild - 01/12/2022 02:16 AM
A 460...I had debated long time for engine swap. Well when I was in high school...I wanted a 460 so that what it is...25 years later I'd be happy with a 300 cylinder. Buddy of mine bought some retired school buses that have 6bt in them I could trade or buy for very reasonable

It has a 4x4/rv cam in still very streetable but with a noticeable idle but will still pull good vacuum at idle. Stock pistons...dual plane aluminum intake...will need a 650 carb to operate properly

I need one of them Cummies put in my F-350 and junk this damn 7.3 thats been sittin dead for over a year cause no body around here will work on 7.3's! lol!
Somebody stuck a 460 in my 700 bucket truck and had the carb worked on and it still gets way too much gas. Will idle but you can tell its too rich, try to rev it up and it totally dies out. looking for a used carb for it too. cant run it like it is. Everything else seams o.k. on it, well cept the broken pinion shaft! lol!
Still cant beat them old 300's in my book! I had several of them over the years!

those old straight 6's were pretty much bullet proof. I had a 67 Dodge dart with a 225 slant 6. Couldn't kill it. rest of the car was crap but that engine wouldn't quit. had a f150 with the 300 in it. same thing.. tranny was crap in that one. C4 tranny was a shit box.
Sonny, sounds like that carb needs to be re-jetted. Carter?????

"thank you American government for cheap surplus tires. 37 12.50 16.5"

yup I have a se of 5, installed brand new on the HMV runflat modular wheel..surplus auction buy, but they WON'T fit a Dana60 front because they wont clear the brake caliper..there are mod kits out there to replace the center section of the wheel,Im just gonna replace the wheels like you did..have any issues with bead getting crimped by the beadlock wheels?
