Anybody have gardens? ---- Been a rough year here, just wonder how things are in other parts of the country! Thanks; sonny

Have a small one don't know what it looks like right now. been on a cruise with the family all last week

getting bunches of green beans, some cukes, tomatoes are starting to ripen. summer squash and zucchini aren't doing any thing. Lots of blossoms but no results. not getting pollinated I guess. Peppers are doing well too.

We picked first green beans and put 12 quart bags in freezer for winter use. Jap beetles here have wiped out the apple trees, grapes, and now on the sweet potatoes. Not sure if I can save the plants or not. The regular potatoes are getting good sized and might make it. some of the short day onions are ready to pull and long day have a long way to go yet. Sweet corn is trying to tassel and put on ears, gotta spray often to keep bugs off so will see if we get corn or not this year.
We were hampered by the wet weather early, so planting was 6 weeks late this year.
NOW it wont rain so I been hauling water from the neighbor's tanker to the garden trying to keep some of the plants alive. The tomatoes are setting green ones on them, so be a long while before they are ripe.

Deer have gotten the tops of my peas, beans, and squash. Have a couple of squash blossoms, so may still get some? Got beans, no idea why they didn't eat all the way down to them like a woodchuck will, just the top leaves. Got one good picking of peas before they were starting to get munched, just a few odd ones now here and there. Good year for blueberries. It would have been a good year for mulberries if we had gotten to them, now we just have fat happy robins. Have a bunch of apples weighting the trees down, the deer will probably get most of those, too. A few peaches. Onions and garlic look good so far. May actually get potatoes this year. Some wild raspberries (smaller than domestic), a few black currants.

I managed to pick enough elderberries to make a pie. birds cleaned off my bush before the berries even got ripe. Picked these on the side of the road.

Looks good Jim!--- Sis has a patch of elderberries growing wild in the back corner of her property and they are just starting to get green berries on the heads. --- everything is much later this year due to our wild year.
Our next planting of sweet corn is ready, --- have 3 more plantings to go and so far it's been good.
Cabbage is about ready so we will freeze some of it for later use. Bell peppers look decent so far, we let them mature before we harvest them.
The tomatoes are not so great this year, didn't get seeds started early like we usually do and not sure what variety these are but seam quite small. They will make juice but takes a long time to pick a bucketful .

The indoor tropical cactus bloomed in August, this year it had 3 big flowers on it.

test dig of sweet potatoes came up with some 5 to 5.5 pounders. ---also a lot of smaller ones. Now the job of digging them. --- Last couple of years, I used the skidloader, looks like that will be the weapon of choice this year too. Ground is like concrete this year due to the dry summer.
3 rows of popcorn lookin real good, might be a bushel basket of ears out there, will let it dry on the stalks as long as I can.

doesn't look like much but we didn't buy tomato's all Summer. still getting some even though the plants are starting to call it quits. Froze a decent amount of beans. Still getting peppers too. Never did get ANY squash of any kind. I think they were just in the wrong location. I'm going to make the garden bigger next year.

We didn't get any squash, pumpkins, or melons this year. --- vines just got to a certain size then died. Got started digging the sweet potatoes yesterday, had to go get the skid loader and bulldoze them out of the hard ground, it breaks some of them but they will still eat.
Did get all of the pop corn picked, got five 5 gallon buckets heaped full of ears, ( more than we will ever use). Still getting some tomatoes, most of them went to waste, can't cover everything this year.
Harvested several buckets of red dry beans, now to shell them!
Sweet potato in pic. is 10.5 pounds. --last years biggest was 7 pounds.

Had to put the toothbar on the bucket to get it in the hard ground and under the potatoes. I found this bar at the tradin-post at the tractor show. The tag said 72", BUT I didn't think it looked that long. --got it home and dropped it in my 66" bucket and had to drive it in a little, ( tight fit) cut side holes for the bolts and now it will dig!
The sweet potatoes in the pix. are a sample of what we are digging. Still have 2 rows to dig. rows are 225 feet long and started with 5.5 rows total.

Finally got the rest of the sweet potatoes dug. looks like around 3,000 pounds total. ---mission will get them, as we only need 25 pounds or so for us.

Garden is done for this year. Going to make it bigger next season.
