New year, new garden string. My 1 Elderberry plant is doing awesome. looks like it's even getting some new shoots. I put some plant food in the sticks I have stuck in the bucket. Hopefully that'll help things along. Finally, seeing some signs of life on them. was afraid they died all together for a while. Bucket went dry while I was in Florida.
Looks good Jim! Elderberries are usually a rugged plant and can stand a lot! --- In the spring, if I dont forget, ---- I will see if the bushes are still at the farm and if you want more,-- I can send you some more.
Looks like you have the starting of them figured out!
I would definitely take more. I need to get some rooting hormone to get better results, but the pond water soak seems to be working ok for now.
Wish I had a bigger piece of property.
Elderberries are doing good. this one's finally showing some roots so time to put it in some dirt
also trying a stick dipped in rooting hormone. I snipped this one off the bush out back. It's my donor plant. no way to protect it from the birds so I'll just use it for more starters.
I also ran the little tiller in the compost pile to turn it over and turned the stuff that I had dumped in the garden under as well. Good timing because it started raining last night and hasn't quit.
Lookin good! Sis says that root stuff works, guess she uses it too!
Still a bit too wet here to do much but I did get about 3/4 of the onion area raked off and burned. Will have to catch when its a little dry on top to till before planting the onions. The plants are s'posed to be shipped the week of the 23 of March, so gittin close!! lol!
Got a lot of the big garden raked off and burned the other day and last night it looked dry enough on top to till the onion area so I did,---toady it rained! --s'posed to for next 3 or 4 days--- light they said,--BUT they have lied before! LOL!!
Anyway according to Virginia's e-mail, Dixondale has sent the onion plants out for delivery and looks like they might be here on the 23'rd just like they said! NOW for a bit of drying so we can get them planted! Have a 30 bunch case coming and a guy over on the next road south of us wants 12 bunches so that leave us with 18 bunches to plant,---same as last year.
Case lots of 30 bunches is the lowest price you can get them. at the garden store, they want $20. for 1 bunch as opposed to around $3.50 a bunch in case lots.
Fertilizer is out of sight price wise this year as is pre -emerge chems., so we will have to do with the horse manure for fert. needs and a little Preen for the weed control on the onions. Usually have good luck with that on the onions. The rest of the garden might be a problem this year.
The onion plants came as expected on the 23'rd! We opened the bunches and spread them out so they wont mold. Rain has stopped, wind has started to blow as high as 45 mph, now for some serious drying! lol!
Now it looks like a week of rain, so will have to wait for some drying before the onions can go in. Before the rain,--I did get some radishes, turnips, and parsnips planted.
finally got the onions planted and they are starting to green up, so all was not lost. Had them in storage for almost 3 weeks, hate having to do that since it does slow them down!
radishes and turnips coming up. Rhubarb a foot or more tall. asparagus got big enough that we had a small helping last night.
There's something I need to plant....Rhubarb & asparagus. Finally got the garden rolled over. Needs More mulch/compost in the new section. It's still Very clumpy.
.
Elderberries are looking good.
gotta look close to see the onion plants. We got a bit more rain and they are greener today.
o.k. pic not postin! Hmmmmm whatsup?
Finally got the gardens planted. beans & peas in the blocks again and cukes along my shop again.
Had to drop a drain line to get rid of water build up on this side of the garden. hopefully it'll help the top half of the garden dry out some. Rained Hard last night and there's no standing water. You can see where the water used to get up to and where it got to last night.
Radishes , turnips, and beets are up. Still dont have potatoes planted. Onions starting to look good. Temps still too cold to plant much here.
more rain and cold wind here and no planting this week! gonna be a late one here!
Had this come over a few days ago, ---- got interesting for a while! lol!
pix not posting! --- o.k. we try from flickr

WOW here they are just starting to bloom!
Lots of green berries yet
Went out and got more yesterday. Good thing I did. heavy rains will keep my ass out of that ditch for a while. Now I'll have to be careful about water moccasins
.
