Hi, has anyone seen in the flesh, either the small Cabrita backhoe or the one built by Groupe FCM- 'the orbit' model. Also Candig briefly made a couple of 360's
I have some plans to give me the boom/bucket/stick geometry - but am struggling with the diameter of the non moving swing or slew post, the vertical round bar that all swings & pivots on - I do not wish this to be too weak & bend in use. I gather Cabrita is used by rental companies across Canada. Wondered if anyone knew of one & could measure this part?

Also in Europe Jmeka build one, & there was a Brazillian one named Brattu, & once a Finnish 'Topi Motorshovel' Thanks, Pete

I think I would go with a sealed wheel bearing unit from a 1ton or larger truck FRONT end..I see you are in the UK so models will be different but one of those trucks have very heavy bearings usually rated for around 12,000lbs (5500KG) vehicle weight..they come with flanges with bolt holes to mount it to what would be your lower table and the wheel studs then pointing upwards would mount your excavator house.FWIW most that are 4WD then may have a hole in the center that will allow a pass-thru for a hose or two for drive motor or auxiliary..hope that helps

On my homemade excavator I used the back axle cut-off from a 3/4 ton chevy pickup, and mounted the house platform to it an built up from that. The back axle is hollow so hoses for outriggers go down thru there and then out to cylinders.
I used the chevy 3/4 ton axle because it's what I had available at the time when I made mine.
ALL of the parts of mine came from the scrap pile. The only thing I bought was welding rods.

Some good ideas here, thanks. The machine I am interested in is the Powerfab 007, A good version was built here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsbNHLijZeY & then improved further by a gear reduction swing rather than direct drive by a motor as favoured by the original designer, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdh_FdIV0cg
Original '92 spec sheet here https://www.oilyhands.co.uk/images/Powerfab_Julian/007%20spec%20sheet.pdf
Admittedly machine is very small, Has anyone ever built the CDP walking 360?

I never did build one from plans!--- Mine was build-as-you-go construction!

I use commercial equipment as a model then scale design my own using what I have on hand..sometimes I have to wait a bit 'till I find the right parts to put it together, like the right hyd cylinder or valving arrangement. I used the TCM mini-loader and a Case W4 as my design models for my wheel loader.Worked out great.
