I slapped this mess together when I got this lathe about 30 years or so ago. It's been OK but now the belt wants to run off the sheaves. Time to redesign my drive system. I'm so much better equipped to make something better. I just have to pre plan well enough to make any parts on the lathe that I may need the lathe to make before I tear it down.

Ya, the flat belts dont tolerate much run-out , so gotta be fairly straight.

Going to try and find a serpentine belt the right size. I can get it around the spindle pully with out much trouble thanks to the old split Babbitt bearings.

Jim I had a small benchtop SouthBend lathe that I started with,I had to cut the belt to remove it from a basement where I bought it at auction..anyway I used a regular vee-belt flipped upside down on the flat surface to drive it with for years..worked great..I have done some clipper belts before on some custom work in Baltimore, there was a place there that did industrial belts there and still made-(what you have)-clipper laced belts to order

I gotta get the mess cleaned up on the motor & shaft assy. first. Got too many irons in the fire and no fuel to keep it burning right now. Work is running me crazy and I really want to get that Damn MG painted and out of my way. 7 years in the shop is long enough.
