Just got this one last week from an auction. They said it needed a battery and starter. --YA!! we know how that goes! lol! --- Well the seat is missing and no key to the new switch they TRIED to hook up to it and 2 tires were real low, fuel has bled off and hand primer pump dont work.---- Starter turns motor over just fine IF you jump direct from batter pack so we have a wiring problem somewhere down the line. Cant find a wiring diagram anywhere for an 1835-B.
I have a parts book but it dont show anything.

I think it been sitting for a long time from the looks of it and from what I can tell its in decent shape and not all beat up.
Dont care for the diesel motor but the 188 Case motor is a good one. Thats what both of my 580 backhoe tractors have in them.

Starting to get the wiring sorted out on the loader,--starter seams to work fine now. Had to buy a set of keys from Case dealer for 15 dollars but they work in the new switch somebody tried to hotwire into the unit! --- Some guys have no business being around equipment ! Next job is to install an electric transfer pump into the diesel line since the hand primer pump is junk!
slow progress but getting there.

A used piece of equipment is always a puzzle to figure out what the previous owner did(or didn't do) to it..you'll get it worked out Sonny..just in time to push snow..10to1 the electric transfer pump you pull out of the box is junk,Ive been thru a ton of 'em..try to get a original Carter or Airtex pump, not a knock-off import, those don't last..best of luck to you

YUP!-- the import pump ran 4 hours then died!--BUT its brother on the L-781 is still runnin and it was put on 2 years ago, so anyway this one ran long enough to prime the system and after that it dont need a pump so as long as the system dont bleed off,--I'm fine till I decide if I want to spend the $260. for a new hand primer pump from Case!
Anyway the only thing I could find wrong was the fuse got knocked out of the holder and shut the motor down! --A REAL interesting set-up on this loader! Power goes from hot batt. wire on back of alt. then up to fuse unit then to key switch. NOW,---- unless there is a fuse in there you have no power to the switch resulting in a dead starter!--which they said was dead! --Starts the old 188 just fine!! --- Not sure what the seller was smikin when the were messin with it! lol!
I used it to dig most of the 2,000 pounds of spuds with and a bunch of other work around here and kinda starting to like the little guy!
The hand controls take some getting used to, but I got that down decent now! -- The short wheelbase kinda sucks! I am used to the long New Hollands! LOL!!

Thought the pump I put on died but it was just the ground wire pulled off! Anyway the loader developed a massive fuel leak and ended up being the suction hose from the tank to the pump.
That was fun to replace since its way down in the deep dark canyons and you can only work with 1 hand in there due to no room to even see what you are doing!

started trying to re- mount the key panel that was broke off when I got the loader AND in the process lost all start/run circuit functions so back to square 1 like it was when I first got it!

yup Sonny might be time for a complete rewire, eliminate the connectors midway with nylon butt crimp splices, seal with RTV silicone on each end..run redundant grounds/commons in with the wiring to reduce resistance

None of the idiot lights work oil/alt/etc and they have printed circuits behind the combo units with bulbs in them ----- TOTAL nightmare! eventually I want to put regular gauges in it, --- SOMEHOW!

I see this quite a bit, a lot of equipment gets run into the ground, broken everything and patched with zip ties and duct tape just to get it up and running again, never really repaired properly or correctly..wiring is what I do, so what I see is that no-one really wants to spend the time to repair it right so it'l last..and wire nuts have NO place in mobile equipment, yet I see them time and time again. You might have luck with the DEVMO gauges Jim found above, I think it's a crap shoot on the quality anymore..I just spent $60 on a VDO electrical fuel level gauge for a forklift, 2weeks later now it doesnt work..pinned it out, its wired right, swopped a lead wire from the fuel tank terminal directly over to the gauge, sender works but gauge is dead..1 hour install time because I gotta pull the whole dash panel out to replace the gauge,of course I can't return it because its electrical in nature, no warrantee..If i had paid $100 for the gauge the outcome probably woudnt have been any better..just more aggravation.

i have a pair of trusty Auto Meter gauges from back in the 90's still working, both electrical senders..used to be made here in the USA, not sure of late now might be china made..remember the 80's Japanese junk that came over first, then they got their quality control working and now its some of the best products out there? sorry I dont see that coming to us with china

chimna KEEPS the quality stuff for they selves!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They CAN make but NOT for export! Back in the late 70's I got a 1" drive socket set that was made in chimna but on the bottom of the box was some strange writing that I copied and sent to a friend that could read chimneese and she said that it read "not for export"!!!!!!!!!!! STILL have that set and still as good as the day made! Its every bit as good as craftsman or snap-on! somehow that set got on the export flat and it got sent to me. Bought it from HF too! lol! they can make the quality stuff but not for anybody else!

yep the bigger you go in sockets the more metal there is..I still have a 3/4"drive impact socket set I got back in the late 80's from Harbor Fright, use em when needed but when they are needed they are put to the test.I turned down the outer edge of the 2-1/2" socket on the lathe to fit Dexter trailer axle nuts so it fits inside the hubs to set torques. I have a complete 1" drive set with ratchet, extensions and long bar that goes out to 3", the whole set I think is right at 150lbs in metal box..but that doesnt come out too often,I think it was made by Williams..honestly only used it once,2-5/8"final drive shaft nuts on my Cat loader...thats some big time torque capacity there..next stop is spline drive sockets

YA and today,---gotta have 200 TURBO hp to do same job!! LOL! Unread how far loaders have evolved in such short time!

Wish I could get a copy of their original plans and make something like it!

To get the injection pump off the motor it looks like the motor has to come out of the loader cause you cant reach anything with it in there! Need to find somebody to rebuild this pump and the one on the 580 backhoe tractor!--- same 188 motor, same POS Standyne db pump. Governor ring ( plastic of course) disintegrates and plugs up the whole pump killing the motor. These pumps ALL do this!

when u pull the pump off the Kubota engine-does it have thin plastic shim underneath? dont lose it and if you send it off make sure to include it..the Stanydyne DB pump on the Case is a good pump Sonny you just need it freshened up with the updates they have for it..once again the ultra low-sulphur diesel doesnt supply the lubrication to the pump internals and they go bad more frequently..I usually get about 10yrs out of a DB2.
Absolutely do not do business with Diesel Care and Performance in Memphis Tenn, they bounced me around for 4months before getting my pump back to me..total BS..30days tops, very easy pump to rebuild..whats the total part number on the pump tag (on side of pump)

Cant see down in there,---gotta see if I can hold a mirror down there and get all the tag info from it. cant come up from the bottom cause its all solid plate and part of the loader body. NOW I know what the decal on the side means " uni-loader" made as 1 solid unit and cant be taken apart!!!!! LOL!!!

The plastic governor ring goes out and plugs up the whole pump is what I was told. One guy CLAIMS he got a $49. kit and put it in his pump himself and it worked! NOT sure I believe him but who knows!
When you take the top off, its full of coffee ground lookin stuff, thats the governor ring!

if you are seeing 'coffee grounds' in the Stanydyne pump top you sure have total fuel system contamination..total pump rebuild with a new liner, rotor and blades, flush all lines, pop check/test injection nozzles..we used to have a Case 188 in a 580 forklift at work it had at LEAST 12,000hrs on it..made it to 8500hrs+/- when we pulled it and the nozzles for complete recon..but it's still on the job today..altho much worn out..transmission linkage is worn out, it has 'Kinda Neutral'-ready to hop into gear at the slightest tremor or bump..major deathtrap as you mount and dismount the lift right on top of the rear tires..only safe thing is the parking brake actually works

Ya,-- I would imagine it messes up the whole system when the rings go out! I also wonder about it getting into the injectors? They would be a bitch to get out of this motor.
Lookin like motor gonna have to come out of the loader to work on it unless somebody got a better idea! --well OTHER than junk it!
One problem is that I was starting to get used to running it and actually liked the little guy! I took out big honeysuckle bushes and small maple trees with it this spring and was amazed how strong the hyd. system is and the amount of power the motor has!
I have put a LOT of hours on it since I got it , so guess I gotta rob the bank and go fix it! LOL!

MIGHT have gotten the #'s off the pump. This is what they somewhat look like looking in the mirror.
DBS2-4359
18SS45
0835 and last digit could be a 1. ---- looks like a upside down 7

everything is backwards in the mirror so these could be off but the didgets are right.

leave the engine in the skid loader, drain and pull the rad and fan..you'll need a DB pump gear puller, or make your own..leave the pump drive gear right where it is,this is basically a small plate the has two bolts that hold the drive gear and a center forcing bolt to push the tapered shaft off the drive gear off the DB inj pump shaft..pull the nozzles(injectors) and send them in with the pump to get cleaned/checked..that way when you get the pump back its a system ready to go..Area Diesel looks like a full service diesel pump shop, I'd try em if I was in the midwest..hell call them to discuss it all

I always get this shit out of time when I mess with it! "Special " pullers and all sounds like the f-350 yoke which I STILL cant get off!
I have NO idea how to get injectors out either,--more "special" pullers I would assume! --- The only injectors I ever took out was on the 371 Detroit in the Oliver super 99 gm tractor that I had at one time. Detroit is simple.

the Kubota V1200,V1500 and the V1202/ V1505s are screw in injector nozzles, they screw into the head..always replace the copper washer underneath the injector..the Case 188 injectors are very similar to the John Deere Powertech diesel injectors, held in with one bolt on top..(remove the return line pipes) then remove the bolt then wiggle the injector up and out..you can give it a little upwards assistance with PB Blaster and a flat blade screwdriver underneath but not TOO MUCH,the injectors can be stuck and you'll snap it off in the head..requiring the cyl head to be removed to drive it out..causing you to cuss yourself and we'll ask you why you didnt listen to us

dont force anything, give it a small twist and get some PB Blaster in there to lube it up..let it sit a day then get back at it. The Kubota injectors are fine threaded, give them time to soak up the blaster spray..its gets in there and prevents Kubota injector thread galling stripouts and the Case teflon injector washers from sticking and staying in the injector pockets when u remove them..slow and low is the tempo

This is the Case 188 motor in this one as far as I know. Looks like the old 580 hoe that is a 1968 model. This one is newer but I think its the same block, might have different valve covers! Hmmmm damn if I know!

yeah it looks like a 188 Case Sonny..sorry for confusion I did work on one with a Kubota in it..you can pull the inj pump on this one easy with just removing the radiator and fan..pull off the drive gear cover and right there is the nut to hold the pump into the gear. Im working on the Bobcat skid steer I just bought..a LOT of things wrong with it, glad I dug into it the main hyd high flow hose was burned and ready to fail, that woulda been a fire for sure..many hoses deteriorated from heat, the exhaust manifold and turbo right on top of a lot of them..I have thermal firesleeving ordered to protect the new hoses,.only $15 for 3feet but it protects the hoses from heat..
Bobcat shoulda put it on when new..you have it easy with that old Case, this newer electronic joystick controlled machine is a pleasure to operate but becoming a nightmare to get straightened out..lot of wear

fix it once, fix it right and it'l last you a long time..use clean diesel, change the fuel filters/water separator once a year and use a good lubricity fuel additive(Power Service or Stanydyne Gold) and it'l run right and last.
