Put new fuel filter on it and got it to run a bit then it died. Took fitting off top of pump and nuttin in it so took short lint off ant it had muddy lookin stuff up at the top end by the first injector connection. Cleaned it and got it to run but has bright blue smoke all the time so something still aint right.

Sonny check the fuel pickup tube on the fuel tank..my machine has the same problem I rebuilt the whole fuel system but it dies out under load..not getting enough fuel..traced it back to the dip tube that goes into the top of the tank,it has a screen in it that got clogged up with dirt and goo..runs fine at idle,but when you call on it for HP-like to run a hyd bush hog-it dies right off..I changed over to electric fuel pump so checked the flow it is down but the pump is working fine..getting starved for fuel on the intake side of the pump..with new fuel lines and post-pump fuel filters it was clear that the suction side was being blocked..pulled the dip tube off and out and sure enough black goo from the tank blocking it..time to clean the tank,suck it out,purge with fresh diesel and use some biocide to kill off the diesel algae that blocks the screens..once a year ritual

suction fine, blows black smoke under load wide open,---dont idle worth a damn, so I just run it hammer down,---never used to run over half throttle on it.

black smoke under load usually indicates overfueling(fuel rate set by inj.pump), or possibly air intake restriction,like a clogged air filter(mouse nest)-the engine fuel rate is set by pump but not enough air-/ so fuel ratio is off.If engine is all-gear drive design,you can rule out camshaft out of time if it's never been into before or if it ran fine before.Black smoke can also be indicative of an overcompensation of the governor under load

I still think the pump has shot craps -----it has always had some blue smoke but only til it warmed up. Governor has been wacky at times like trying to run away but always came back down.

Cleaned the air filter,----not a whole lot in it,---still smokes blue smoke.

so this is a Case 188 diesel?

Ya, this one got the Case 188 diesel in it. Same motor that my 580ck backhoe tractors have in them and both of them have injection pumps out right now and all are db-2 pumps.
My 2504 IH tractors have the same pump and they too are out.

Sonny it sounds like you need to read a couple books on Stanydyne injection pump rebuilding and give it a try

got a thin paper on them,---shows the 10 million parts of them but I dont have any test equipment.

there were a couple shops advertising on eBay for Stanydyne injection pump rebuilds around $400,depending on parts..Southern Valley Diesel LLC in Stamford Nebraska is one..they are on Facebook
