yes Jim there should be a proximity or limit switch that locks out high speed travel when the mast is in the air..this small lift has one as well,from what I can tell it gets wired to a flow divider solenoid valve to dump half the hyd pump flow back to the tank when the mast is raised..thats a definite must have.
